Editorial Policies
Principles governing authorship, accountability, competing interests, citations, editorial independence and fair scholarly review.
The editorial policies of the Nigerian Journal of Technical Education (NJTE) are designed to promote integrity, transparency, fairness, accountability and scholarly excellence.
These policies apply to authors, reviewers, editors and other participants in the journal's publication process.
Authorship Requirements
Every person listed as an author must have made a genuine and substantive contribution to the research.
- Made a substantive contribution to the research
- Participated meaningfully in the intellectual development of the work
- Reviewed and approved the final manuscript
- Agreed to be accountable for their individual contribution
- Agreed to address concerns relating to accuracy or integrity
Listing All Contributors
Individuals who make substantial intellectual or research contributions should receive appropriate authorship or acknowledgement.
Potential Authors
Principal investigators, co-investigators, postgraduate students, research assistants, technical personnel, laboratory personnel, field researchers and data analysts may qualify for authorship where their contributions are substantial.
Acknowledged Contributors
Individuals whose assistance does not meet the requirements for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged rather than included as authors.
No Gift, Guest or Honorary Authorship
NJTE prohibits authorship based solely on:
- Seniority
- Administrative authority
- Academic position
- Personal relationships
- Institutional influence
- Financial support without substantive intellectual contribution
Corresponding Author Responsibilities
Submission Management
The corresponding author must ensure that:
- All required manuscript files are submitted.
- Author information is correct.
- Required declarations are provided.
- All co-authors approve the submission.
Communication
The corresponding author serves as the principal liaison between the author team and the NJTE Editorial Office throughout peer review and publication.
Post-Acceptance Responsibilities
- Review publication proofs promptly.
- Respond to editorial queries.
- Coordinate corrections.
- Assist with post-publication clarification where necessary.
- Facilitate legitimate data-sharing requests where applicable.
Competing Interests Policy
NJTE requires transparency regarding interests that could reasonably influence, or appear to influence, the design, interpretation or presentation of research.
Financial Competing Interests
- Employment by an organization related to the research
- Consultancy payments
- Research sponsorship
- Commercial interests
- Ownership of shares
- Patent interests
Non-Financial Competing Interests
- Professional relationships
- Academic rivalries
- Institutional associations
- Membership of advocacy organizations
- Personal relationships
- Relevant ideological positions
Recommended Declaration
“The authors declare that they have no competing interests.”
Citation Policy
Primary Sources
Authors should prioritize original scholarly sources including peer-reviewed articles, technical reports, official research datasets, standards and institutional publications.
Electronic Sources
- Include DOI links where available.
- Use stable URLs.
- Verify that electronic references are accessible.
- Use legitimate publisher, institutional or repository links.
Self-Citation
Self-citation is permitted where directly relevant. Authors must not add irrelevant references merely to increase personal citation metrics.
Plagiarism and Attribution
All intellectual material obtained from another source must be properly acknowledged. NJTE maintains zero tolerance for plagiarism.
